In part 01 of this blog post (Why Are You Jailing Your Potential) we‘ve learned that our mindset has a tremendous impact and guides our life. Unfortunately, it is the majority that doesn’t take care of its mind. The result is a mind that controls us and our life.
We‘ve also learned that we can change our beliefs. We are in charge! Instead of letting our mind control us, we want to decide to take care and control our mind and thus, our life.
The process is relatively easy: Practice!
Our mind is like a muscle. If we work out every day just a little bit, we can strengthen our system and set the beliefs we want to have.
The following step by step instruction will show you a way to strengthen your mindset. The steps are easy to apply, quickly done and simple to integrate into your daily routine.

Step 01 – Get Leverage
In order to start this journey, get leverage by finding out your most desired states and goals you want to achieve. These will give you the drive to move forward. Ask yourself the following questions:
- What are my goals?
- What did I always want in my life?
- In which areas of my life do I desire changes – family, relationship, finances, personal skills and abilities, spirituality, materiality?
- Where do I want to be in life? What is my intended destination?
- What do I want to achieve, create and give in life?
These should be things you don’t have at the moment, but will have in the future by finding out the WHY behind it. Why are you not having it? Figuring out the why will give you the awareness that is required to make the shift.
Step 02 – Gain Awareness
It is good to analyze first before you try several techniques. This way you will ensure to discover, what is holding you back. Knowing your weakness, you also know where your attention is required. Be consciously aware of what you are doing and why you are doing it. Start to observe yourself and your behavior and ask yourself the following questions:
- What am I deciding in specific situations?
- How do I act?
- Why am I deciding and acting this way?
- Do I have limiting beliefs or fears?
- What are my limiting beliefs?
- What is holding me back?
- What am I afraid of?
- What thoughts do I have that are generalizations about myself, my life, others and the world?
When you recognize that you are doing things that are pulling you away from your ultimate goal, then it is likely that you have limiting beliefs. Find these limiting beliefs by answering the questions above and go to step 03!
Step 03 – Change your beliefs
As soon as you have discovered your limiting beliefs, write them down, all of them. Now, change the content of these beliefs in order to transform them to empowering statements. It can be challenging at the first attempt, as the focus is usually on the negative things. Else you wouldn’t have had these limiting thoughts in the first place.
Try to change your focus to the positive by searching the opposite. The contrary to the negative is usually the positive. This will help you to find new empowering beliefs.
Substitute your old thoughts that were holding you back with your new statements that are encouraging you. It is important that you phrase them in a way that is compelling for you.
Limiting: I am lousy at Spanish! Everyone has weaknesses and learning a second language is obviously mine.
Empowering: Spanish is easy! I am able to do whatever it takes to speak Spanish fluently and to enjoy my holidays in South America eager to practice and apply the language in the real world.
Limiting: Not everyone can live in financial abundance. Rich people were born into it. I was just born in the middle class and am dependent on my day job to feed my mouth.
Empowering: I enjoy greater and greater financial freedom because I know that every effort gets rewarded and I take consistent action towards my goal to live that life I deserve to have.
Role models are a great start as you can look at them when you are searching for empowering beliefs. This will help you to get additional ideas. You can either look for people in your environment that are having the success you want or you can find famous personalities.
Having a person that surrounds you and that you can communicate with personally, you want to look for things the person is saying. By observing this person, you can find out his beliefs. You also can ask questions about what the person thinks about certain things.
In case you just have a famous personality as your role model, you can find out more about his beliefs by reading biographies and social media.
Step 04 – Take Action
Now, you have discovered your weaknesses, the limiting beliefs that are hindering you. You have taken these and changed their external look by transforming them into an empowering statement. You know everything consciously. Unfortunately it doesn’t mean that your mind knows it.
Now it is time to persuade your mind!
Earlier, your mind controlled you. Directed by your brain, you were acting subconsciously. This is a habit that became deep installed over the years.
The main goal of this whole process is to change that habit. In order to do that you want to condition yourself. You want to install a new powerful habit that serves you and your goals. Your new habit will be getting in the lead over your mind, choosing the beliefs that are influencing your behavior and actions positively.
It requires some action to change a habit, but as soon as your new habit is subconscious, it doesn’t take any time anymore. It’s effortless and leads you to the destination you want to go. You eventually made the switch.
Listed below are techniques that will help you with the process. Instead of doing time-consuming efforts just one time, it is better to take little steps, but constantly. Changing your beliefs is a process that works over time. In order to succeed, stay patient and do a little work every day. It just needs to take 5 to 10 minutes every day.
Use pleasure and pain!
This is a powerful technique I’ve learned from Tony Robbins, that works wonder. Close your eyes and visualize yourself. First visualize yourself having limiting beliefs. What do you see? Where are you in life? Are you happy? Are you feeling pain? What is it that causes the pain?
Afterwards, visualize yourself having empowering beliefs. What do you see now? Where are you in life? Are you excited? Are you energized and are feeling the potential you have in yourself? Are you feeling pleasure and happiness? What is it that creates these feelings?
Do this exercise over and over again and you will feel the difference.
If you want to learn more about this technique, then have a look at Tony Robbins ‘Personal Power II’ program. I can recommend the whole program, as I personally got massive results out of it.
Incantations are things you are saying to yourself 5, 10, 20 times in a row. You are going to persuade yourself by repeating compelling statements. These statements are general beliefs that are worth adopting.
It is important that incantations are phrased positively. Below are examples of what these statements can look like. Try to find some that are serving your needs. You know yourself better than anyone else. Find out what motivates you? What were the main limiting beliefs you had? Challenge them to contest by reversing them.
Take three statements every day and repeat each of these up to 20 times in a row. Speak them out loud and use a strong and confident voice in order to get the message to your brain. You can split the bulk by taking one statement in the morning, one before lunch and one in the evening.
- I am in charge of my life and live life on my terms!
- Everything happens for a reason! I can appreciate it and adapt accordingly!
- Healthy food is a gift that serves my life now and in the future!
- “Wherever focus goes, energy flows!” Tony Robbins
- Focus equals speed. I can focus on the things that matter!
- I can do it and I know it will transform my life!
- I deserve to be financially independent and can save money!
Make it simple! You can install rituals that are easy to integrate into your daily routine. You could do the incantations, for example, while taking a shower and don’t need to take extra time for it. The same is possible for the pleasure and pain technique. You could do it while brushing your teeth.
In the beginning, it can happen that you forget your new rituals as you are trapped in your daily routine. In order to remind yourself, work out some supportive actions. Make a plan and schedule your rituals. Determine what you are doing when. Then set reminders in your phone or calendar.
You also could put some sticky notes onto your mirror, fridge, desk or bed. These can either be just reminders or contain your incantations or the empowering beliefs you phrased in Step 03. Put them everywhere, so that you will see them as often as possible.
Last but not least, visualize your future self. How are you going to be, when you have eliminated your limiting beliefs? See your self-confidence, your success, your self-esteem and your unleashed potential you gained by applying the above instructions. This is your destination.
